I AM MORE THAN MY SPORT
A JOURNAL FOR ATHLETES
INSIDE
I AM MORE THAN MY SPORT.
Your sport is what you do. It’s not who you are. But when you spend a majority of your time devoted to your sport, a feeling of identifying as a __________ player, instead of a person who plays ___________, is understandable. It’s also valid that you want to excel and be the best athlete you can be. This journal is designed to help you reflect on your day as an athlete, but just as importantly, as a person.
It’s been proven that when you write things down:
You have a clearer picture of your goals and priorities.
You stay motivated.
You are more committed to your goals.
You feel a sense of accomplishment for the victories in each day.
This journal is intended to be a short daily exercise to make athletes process their day in a positive way.
As a former division 1 athlete with young girls playing sports now it is INTENSE and scary to see how much focus goes into ONE THING. I want to raise my kids to be able to participate and compete in multiple sports and also know that sports do not define who they are. This journal will give my daughters a chance to reflect on their successes and failures inside and outside of sports while at the same time reminding them there is ALWAYS GOOD, and they are loved.
I love long walks in the woods, in a comfy hoodie, while listening to Taylor Swift or a good audio book.
I love a two out, bases loaded, game on the line situation.
I love a good cup of coffee with french vanilla creamer.
I love an unexpected text that changes your day.
I love my fam.
I love when my husband plays a good song in the morning. I’m looking at you Concrete Blonde. Joey is a classic.
But student- athletes are my passion and I've competed or worked in athletics all my life. My rose of the day will inevitably involve a convo where they share something good about their day. Or share something personal I didn’t know. Or tell me about a grade they are proud of earning. The moments I enjoy most are getting the scoop about them as people. It’s easy to forget they have more going on than how they practiced, or how they played, or if they won. BUT THEY DO, and they need reminded. I hope this journal is a small way to remind them: They are more than their sport.
and i love this
